Our next colloquium will be a presentation by Lewis Porter entitled, “Did Miles Davis Steal Tunes?” Lewis has provided the following description of his presentation:

It is "common knowledge" that Miles Davis recorded pieces written by other musicians and claimed that he wrote them. But "common knowledge" is no proof and is often wrong. What exactly do we know about why and how compositions by other musicians got credited to Davis? Dr. Porter presents his unpublished research on a number of specific pieces credited to Davis.
